Horse riding is prohibited on Seven Mile Beach in Negril in Jamaica, to ensure animal welfare and public safety. These private horse owners use them to support their livelihoods which is fraught with difficulties and when Tourists flock to the area ready to part with cash to take a horse ride and get that selfie it may seem like a way to sustain a daily income.

As tourists, it is on us to ask questions about animal welfare, observe local rules and adopt an ethical travel approach. Seek out ways to spend money on ethical tourism based on local community wealth-building that doesn't harm animals and reduces our impact on the environment.
